3 Free Agent RBs Cowboys Must Sign Amid Camp Injuries
2. Jerick McKinnon
As solid as Hunt can be, he's a one-dimensional rusher who can't do a lot outside of the red zone. If the Cowboys want to add more of a versatile running back to the mix, Jerry Jones should pick up the phone to give Jerick McKinnon a call.
McKinnon, 32, is an experienced RB who's played 116 games for the Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, and Kansas City Chiefs. He's turned a total of 660 carries into 2,650 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns while also amassing 2,048 receiving yards and another 20 TDs on 269 receptions.
McKinnon's pass-catching ability could look quite attractive to Mike McCarthy's coaching staff. Elliott and Dowdle are far from the greatest receivers while Vaughn only averaged 5.7 yards on seven receptions as a rookie. Throwing McKinnon into the backfield would give QB Dak Prescott another dangerous weapon in the passing game.
Additionally, McKinnon brings championship experience to the table. Even though Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire were leading Kansas City's backfield during the last two title runs, the experience that McKinnon amassed from winning back-to-back Super Bowls can't be ignored.
Whether it's on the field or in the locker room, McKinnon's addition would make the Cowboys better.
