3. Latavius Murray

Another veteran RB who could be on the Cowboys' radar is Latavius Murray. The 34-year-old ball carrier spent the 2023 NFL season with the Buffalo Bills, tallying 419 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns on 96 opportunities (79 carries, 17 receptions).

What makes Murray an intriguing depth option is that he has experience in a lead role. Injuries β€” especially to RBs β€” can pop up at a moment's notice, so it'd be nice to have an available rusher who's started in 80 of his 151 career appearances thus far. In fact, he's tallied at least three starts in each of his 10 seasons.

Another thing that makes Murray attractive is that he rarely misses time. He's only been absent for nine games in the last six seasons and has never played fewer than 13 games in his career. It's like the saying goes, sometimes availability is the best ability in sports.

And even though he's entering his mid-30s, it isn't as if the Titusville, FL native is washed. Murray is averaging a solid 4.3 rushing yards on 801 carries since 2018 and still averaged a respectable 3.8 yards per attempt in 2023. Even if that isn't the most glamorous production, you can't argue that it wasn't better than what we saw from Vaughn (1.7 Y/A).

Even if it's just to see what he has left in the tank until training camp is over, the Cowboys have nothing to lose by adding Murray on a 'prove yourself' deal.

For now, we'll have to see how Dallas' backfield is shaping up in the preseason opener against the LA Rams on Sunday. Despite being on the road at SoFi Stadium, the Cowboys are the 4.5-point favorites over the Rams on DraftKings Sportsbook.
