3 Rangers Who Won't Be Back in 2024 After Second-Half Collapse
By Tyler Maher
2. Aroldis Chapman
One of the main reasons behind the Rangers' rut is that their bullpen has been so bad, consistently blowing leads and letting winnable games slip away.
Unfortunately for Texas, Aroldis Chapman has been one of the greatest offenders. His last 6 appearances -- all of which came in the ninth inning or later -- have resulted in 2 blown saves, 2 losses and a 7.94 ERA.
The seven-time All-Star may have a lot of experience in high-leverage situations, but that doesn't mean he's still effective in them. The Rangers traded for him to boost their bullpen, not actively damage it.
Chapman is also going to be a free agent this winter, and Texas will likely want to move on from the 35-year-old southpaw, especially if he can't handle big spots late in the season. Chapman's shaky relief outings have been a major issue lately, and he needs to clean them up ASAP.
