3 Stars Who Won't Be in Dallas by the End of the Season
3. Ryan Suter
Ryan Suter has made a name for himself as one of the best NHL defensemen over the last 20 years. He's racked up 664 points over 1,362 career games and, while he doesn't have that Stanley Cup ring, he's a three-time all-star with six top-10 Norris Trophy finishes.
Having said that, Suter is turning 39 in January and is no longer the blueliner that he once was.
The Madison, Wisconsin native is coming off a campaign that saw him record just 25 points in 82 games. He also proved that his aging body can no longer handle heavy ice time, only playing 20:23 per game — the third-lowest average of his 18-year career.
Once you take into account Suter's $3.65 million AAV over the next two seasons, it isn't tough to fathom the Stars moving on from the veteran D-man. His no-movement clause could make things tough, but where there's a will, there's a way — especially if Dallas attaches extra incentives for any interested parties.
Although he brings name value to Dallas' backend, it'll be hard to justify Suter's spot on the team if his play continues not to match his cap hit.
