3 Studs (and 2 Duds) From Rangers' Game 4 Win Over Diamondbacks
By Tyler Maher
Dud: Mitch Garver
As a designated hitter, your sole job is to hit.
Unfortunately, Garver did the opposite of that in Game 4. He was a total rally-killer in the three-hole, going 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts. He did walk once, but a) that's not a hit and b) nothing came of it.
Garver's walk came in the first inning with 2 outs, and he was immediately stranded when Evan Carter (who also went 0-for-4) flew out to end the frame.
After that, it was all downhill for Garver. He grounded out to end the top of the second after Semien and Seager's massive hits. He whiffed to lead off the fourth and seventh innings, then whiffed again in the ninth inning with nobody out and Seager on second base.
Garver's three punchouts were the most by any player on either team, but fortunately most of them were relatively harmless. He's now 1-for-15 to begin the series, however, so we'll see if Bochy benched him in Game 5 or at least drops him in the batting order.
