3. Mike McCarthy

Mike McCarthy's contract may not count toward the salary cap, but there's no doubting that it's a bad one.

Without it counting toward the cap I don't really care about the dollar value. It's not important to me whether Jerry Jones gets the most bang for his buck or not. But $100 thousand or $10 million, the contract is bad all the same.

Letting McCarthy coach out the 2024-25 season on an expiring deal is such a cop out. If Jones foolishly thinks that McCarthy is the right answer, then at least commit to that. Give him the job security needed to have confidence in his decisions and avoid having to coach in fear.

Or, if you're like the rest of the world and understand that McCarthy is not the answer, then he should have just been fired already. If he isn't the answer, why waste another season with a roster that could be a legitimate contender?

And what's the plan if McCarthy comes out and disappoints again this season? Firing him midseason is a lot tougher now without Dan Quinn in town to take over as interim head coach. Mike Zimmer could do it, but that's a lot less interesting a prospect than having hired a legitimate head coach in the first place.
