The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the NFL's best teams through the first half of the 2023 season, but they have undoubtedly had some disappointing moments, games, players, and coaches. This team obviously came into the 2023 season expecting to be a championship contender, but are there too many fatal flaws as a whole?

The Cowboys have done a pretty great job of assembling this team. They rank 3rd in the NFL in scoring so far this season and 6th in the league in points allowed defensively.

But who have been this team's biggest "busts" so far in 2023? Let's take a look at who might be holding this Cowboys team back.

Biggest busts for the Dallas Cowboys halfway through the 2023 season

1. The running game as a whole

The Dallas Cowboys are pretty fortunate that Tony Pollard has been able to stay healthy this season, even coming off of an injury he sustained in the playoffs. Without Tony Pollard, the Cowboys' running back group would be barren.

With all due respect to players like Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn, who worked incredibly hard to get to the NFL, this Cowboys rushing attack is simply not built for the postseason in my opinion. The Cowboys ranked 6th in rushing attempts a season ago, 9th in total rushing yards, and 2nd in the entire NFL with 24 rushing touchdowns.

This season? This season they rank 12th in rushing attempts, 15th in yards, and 20th in touchdowns (5).

Offensively, the lack of a truly consistent running game this season has made the Cowboys more one-dimensional offensively, which doesn't bode very well for their Super Bowl aspirations.
