4 Mavericks Who Won't Be Back in 2024

With the Dallas Mavericks' season ending in the NBA Finals, it's a good time to discuss some players who might not be with the team next season.

3. Dwight Powell

Powell isn’t a free agent this offseason as he’s scheduled to make $4 million in the 2024-25 season. However, the Mavericks might be better off trying to move the veteran center in a trade with Tim Hardaway Jr. to free up a roster spot or acquire more talent to continue to bolster the frontcourt.

The 32-year-old Powell was a non-factor this season for the Mavericks and saw his production decrease significantly from the 2022-23 season (6.7 points and 4.1 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per game).

This season, Powell only averaged 3.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game. It also didn’t help that Dallas made two solid trades by the deadline for Washington and Daniel Gafford, who were immediate upgrades in the frontcourt.

Not to mention, rookie Dereck Lively II, who played well in his first NBA season and looks to be a good player that can play alongside Doncic. With all those factors mixed in, it’s tough to see where Powell fits on the roster going forward.
