5 Bold Cowboys Predictions for Week 2 vs Jets

Will someone retire mid-game? How many millions of dollars will Dak Prescott lose? If Deuce Vaughn runs the football and nobody is there to see it, does he still gain yards?

5. The Cowboys Tank Dak Prescott's Contract Extension Leverage

The downside of all that national attention? I'm sure there are already some bozos out there speculating about how bad Dak Prescott was in Week 1. After all, he didn't even have 150 yards passing! He finished with a worse completion percentage and only one more yard than Zach Wilson last week!

These are things that happen when you win 40-0.

With a game out of hand, you're not running your full offense. The priority is on milking the clock, keeping everyone healthy and avoiding tipping your hand by showing too much to future opponents.

And on an individual level, the quarterback should be focused on simply avoiding getting hit and not throwing picks. Yardage, touchdowns and even completions all become kind of secondary factors.

With another blowout on tap in Week 2, we once again won't get a full game of Dak trying to do damage. He might be able to post hefty numbers in the first half, but we could see another weak stat line. Anyone who watches the game will know he was fine, but we all know plenty of people that just look at the box score and start running their mouths.

The problem is, Dak's firmly in the midsty of negotiating a contract extension.

Even if everyone knows why his numbers were down, by next offseason when they're at the negotiation table it's just going to be that season-long number that gets pointed to. "Another sub-4,000-yard season Dak? Is that really worth $130 million guaranteed?"

Maybe Dak goes rogue and starts throwing bombs to Ceedee Lamb up 30 to pad his stats, but somehow I doubt it.

I guess he'll just need to win a Super Bowl ring to prove his worth.
