2. Snoop Conner, Running Back

The Cowboys' running back situation has been a topic of discussion throughout the offseason. Dallas was disappointed in the performance of Tony Pollard who was their featured back in 2023, so they didn't retain him in 2024. They didn't add anyone in the draft to replace him and wound up with Ezekiel Elliott and Royce Freeman as their top additions.

Zeke and Freeman are expected to work in a committee with Rico Dowdle — however, Dowdle is the one with the most upside and could wind up becoming their lead back. Their depth chart might not have a lot of talent but there are some interesting options behind those three including Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis.

Vaughn was a star for Kansas State but struggled as a rookie in Dallas with 80 yards from scrimmage. Davis was undrafted out of Florida in 2022 and had 161 yards on 38 attempts (4.2 per rush) with a touchdown as a rookie. He wasn't utilized in year two but could force his way onto the roster this season.

One running back who seems destined to be released, however, is Snoop Conner. A fifth-round pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022, Conner looks the part at 5-foot-10 and 222 pounds. He just hasn't been able to force his way onto the field.

With the Jaguars, he had 12 rushes for 42 yards with a touchdown as a rookie. He spent all of the 2023 campaign on their practice squad and was signed by Dallas this January. It's tough to see him being able to make it to the 53-man roster and surviving the preseason might not even be in the cards.
