The Dallas Cowboys need to add more depth which is why they should consider these six free agents ahead of the mandatory minicamp.

The Cowboys are pretty deep at safety with Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, Markquese Bell, and Juanyeh Thomas. The problem is that they don't have too many players who excel in coverage. While Hooker earned a 71.7 grade in coverage from PFF (25th at the position), Wilson had a 66.6 which was 41st. Thomas had an impressive 85.9 but that was in a limited sample size and we still don't know what Bell brings as a full-time safety after his linebacker experiment in 2023.

Again, they're good and they have depth but it's not enough to turn their noses up at a potential upgrade — which is what Justin Simmons could be.

The former Denver Broncos safety is still looking for a new home which is rather surprising considering he made his third straight All-Pro Team in 2023 — and his fourth in the past five seasons. Simmons, who turns 31 later this year, had 70 tackles and three picks in 2023. For his career, he has 604 tackles, 64 pass breakups, and 30 interceptions.

His coverage grade slipped a little in 2023 but he was still playing at a high level. There might be some concern over his age but he's not much older than Malik Hooker (28) or Donovan Wilson (29).

The Dallas defense was strong in 2023 but they could be even better if they add a veteran leader capable of taking the ball away. As an added bonus, the Eagles are seen as a potential landing spot for Simmons as well, so bringing him in keeps their top rival from improving as well.
