5. Neville Gallimore

Sticking on the defensive front, the Cowboys will either carry four or five defensive tackles, and a few of those spots are obviously set in stone.

Mazi Smith is making the roster, obviously. Osa Odighizuwa is the other starter, and his spot on the 53 is firmly set. Jonathan Hankins is at the top of the list for reserves, and he's clearly the Cowboys' most valuable depth piece at the position.

So then we have a battle for the fourth spot, which mostly comes down to Chauncey Golston vs. Neville Gallimore. Whether Dallas carries five is more about whether Quinton Bohana gets on, but either way I see the Gallimore/Golston battle being over a single spot.

Both are former third-round picks (2020 for Gallimore, 2021 for Golston), but are far enough removed from their draft years for that sunk cost to weigh into the decision anyway.

Gallimore was straight up bad when he saw the field last season, while Golston showed some flashes inside and also had the versatility to move around the line.

It was going to take a big preseason for Gallimore to overtake Golston in the fight for a roster spot. He did put forth a good effort in the preseason, but ultimately it wasn't quite enough.
