9 Cowboys Who Will Be Cut by Tuesday's Roster Deadline
6. Chuma Edoga
This is one of the deepest Cowboys rosters we've had in a while, and it's not a year where we can afford to be cavalier with roster spots. And with some versatility available on the offensive line, I suspect Dallas will try to save a roster spot with the group, allowing them to keep an extra defender instead.
The easiest place to save that spot is at tackle.
Obviously Tyron Smith and Terence Steele make it. Behind them, Matt Waletzko has played the entire preseason at right tackle, but also played the entire 2022 preseason at left tackle, showing some versatility.
Chuma Edoga would be the other depth tackle option, but he won't make it for a couple reasons.
First of all, if Smith goes down it's really not Waletzko that serves as our backup anyway. Tyler Smith would bump into the left tackle spot, meaning the depth behind Smith really comes from interior o-linemen anyway.
Second, Edoga is currently nursing a knee injury. That doesn't mean he's not worth rostering, but it makes him that much harder to justify hanging onto for the final 53 if they don't really need him when healthy anyway.
