All-Pro Defender Angling for Cowboys Trade

Should the Cowboys put the old "defense wins championships" adage to the test?

The Cowboys already have last year's Defensive Player of the Year runner-up on their defensive front. How about getting a little crazy and adding the third-place vote getter?

That's what's being rumored, with the Cowboys apparently having interest in trading for Kansas City Chiefs holdout defensive tackle Chris Jones. And Jones himself seems to like the idea of joining Micah Parsons in Dallas too.

Cowboys Rumors: Chris Jones Wants a Trade to Dallas

Players know their social media activity is always subject to scrutiny, especially during heated contract negotiations. Jones wasn't just absentmindedly throwing out this 'like', he was doing it with a purpose.

The cost to add Jones would be pretty steep, allegedly requiring a first-round pick and young breakout lineman Osa Odighizuwa to get the trade done. And that would only be step one.

Chris Jones may not expect Aaron Donald money, but it would cost a ton to keep him in Dallas for long. And considering the number of high-profile Cowboys (including Dak Prescott) who need new contracts, that could be tough to work out.

Jerry Jones isn't afraid to get wild though, and this would be one heck of a win-now move. That first-rounder will presumably be a very late draft pick anyway, as Jones would solidify this Cowboys defense as the best in the NFL.

Even if we don't get elite play out of Dak, he's certainly good enough that he can at least do enough to be carried to a deep playoff run by an elite defense.

The Cowboys aren't quite among the favorites to win the Super Bowl this season, ranking sixth in the odds. A trade for Jones would certainly send them flying up those rankings.

But is it worth sacrificing long-term assets to make that push?

Chris Jones certainly thinks so.
