Brandin Cooks Puts Pressure on Jerry Jones to Pay Up
It's been a rather underwhelming offseason for the Cowboys fanbase. They were sold a dream by owner Jerry Jones that this team would be aggressive and be 'all-in' but that was far from the truth.
The Cowboys' biggest free-agent addition was the return of RB Ezekiel Elliott but that can't be the biggest move when this team fails to get over the hump in the postseason.
The Cowboys have won 12 games in three straight years but they continue to fall short of making the NFC Championship Game.
The main storylines this offseason surrounded the contract extensions of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons.
WR Brandin Cooks recently had an interview with Fox News Digital and raved about both Lamb and Prescott.
Cowboys News: Brandin Cooks Says Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb Deserve to Be Paid
In March 2023, the Cowboys traded for WR Brandin Cooks and he now heads into his second year with the team.
He watched firsthand last season when both Prescott and Lamb had monster campaigns.
Last season, Prescott was third in the NFL in passing yards (4,516), second in QBR (72.7), and first in passing touchdowns (36). Meanwhile, Lamb was first in the league in receptions (135), second in receiving yards (1,749), and third in receiving scores (12). They formed one of the best duos in the league and Cooks believes they deserve to be rewarded.
He thinks Amon-Ra St. Brown and A.J. Brown getting monster extensions is great news for Lamb.
Cooks said, "They’re all great players, and they all deserve what they got. But I think when you sit back and you root for someone in the way I root for CeeDee to be able to get what he’s deserved, I’m just smiling because I’m like, ‘This guy’s going to break the bank. He deserves it, and I tell you, when it happens, it won’t be one of those situations, like, he relaxes. That’s the difference. He loves this game so much, all he’s going to do is continue to get better and produce and bring value to the Cowboys, for sure."
The 30-year-old then raved about Prescott. Cooks stated, "He deserves it as well. It’s one of those things you look back as a player, that quarterback-receiver relationship is so important, the way that he leads the men in the locker room, the way that he continues to get better"
Prescott is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, while, Lamb was not present at OTAs thus far because of contract holdout.
The market for both positions will only continue to rise. It would be wise for the Cowboys to pay both of these playmakers but it looks like Jones is playing hardball with two of the best players on his team.
