The Dallas Cowboys were dealt a significant blow to their defense to start Week 4, losing Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence to lower-body injuries. Both star defenders will miss multiple weeks, which isn’t great for the Cowboys, who don’t have much defensive line depth.

Concerning Lawrence’s health, ESPN’s Todd Archer reported Sunday that the veteran defensive lineman is dealing with a Lisfranc injury. Archer added that Lawrence’s bones in his right foot weren’t displaced and won’t require surgery.

On Monday, head coach Mike McCarthy provided another update on Lawrence and it’s not good for the Cowboys.

According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, McCarthy said Lawrence will be out multiple weeks “past the bye.” The Cowboys will play the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers over the next two weeks before the Week 7 bye.

The Cowboys should be able to get past the Steelers without Lawrence and Parsons next week. But not having them against the 49ers for Week 6 is less than ideal. This season, Lawrence had 14 combined tackles, 10 quarterback pressures, five quarterback hits, four tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble.

Before this update from McCarthy, it was reported that Lawrence would be out for 4-8 weeks to recover and likely head to injured reserve. Without the veteran defensive lineman on the field for the next several weeks, the Cowboys will turn to veteran Carl Lawson, who has been called up twice from the practice squad.
