Cowboys Get Bittersweet Injury Update on Another Key Defender
The Dallas Cowboys found a way to secure a come from behind win in Week 5. The Cowboys went on the road to top the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-17 without starters Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence.
In addition to being with two starters on the defensive side, rookie defensive end Marshawn Kneeland was carted off the field on Sunday night and the Cowboys were hoping for some good news.
While Kneeland will still miss some time, they avoided the worst-case scenario.
Cowboys News: Marshawn Kneeland Avoided Worst Case Scenario
According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, Kneeland didn't tear his ACL but he does have a meniscus tear and Dr. Cooper will repair it on Tuesday.
The Cowboys already placed Lawrence on injured reserve and Parsons could miss several weeks with a high-ankle sprain.
They were looking to get more snaps out of Kneeland in this timeframe but that wasn't able to happen. Dallas may need to acquire a star pass-rusher in the meantime to elevate the defense cause if they don't, they'll be relying on Carl Lawson and Tyrus Wheat.
For a team that has Super Bowl aspirations, losing your top three edge rushers in consecutive weeks isn't ideal. They'll have to weather the storm over the next couple of weeks, which is a tall task.
Although, there is no timeline for Kneeland's return, getting him back at some point this season is huge. Being able to generate pressure is critical in the playoffs.
In 2024, the Western Michigan product has six total pressures, four QB hits, and two hurries.
