Cowboys Could Receive Four Extra Draft Picks For Free Agency Losses
With the NFL Draft on the back burner, teams are looking towards the 2024 season but it's never too early to get a head start on 2025.
The Dallas Cowboys were ridiculed by their fanbase for their lack of moves in free agency. They watched as Tyron Smith, Tony Pollard, Tyler Biadasz, Dorance Armstrong, Dante Fowler, and Johnathan Hankins left town.
But there is a silver lining to losing these players and it comes with a bonus in the 2025 NFL Draft.
NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein released an article with compensatory pick projections for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Cowboys News: Dallas Projected to Fetch Four Additional Draft Picks
Any additional draft picks go a long, and the Cowboys have added compensatory picks every year since 2021.
For those who don't know what a compensatory pick is, it's very simple. To receive a compensatory pick, teams with more qualifying free agents lost than gained in a particular year receive the additional capital. Teams are rewarded picks between Rounds 3-7.
Zierlein believes the Cowboys will receive three fifth-round picks and an additional sixth-round selection in 2025.
OvertheCap.com projects Smith, Armstrong, and Biadasz to notch fifth-round selections, while Pollard nets an extra sixth.
The potential four compensatory selections would be tied for a league-high with the Baltimore Ravens.
Over the past few years, Dallas used compensatory picks on players like Dak Prescott, Donovan Wilson, Damone Clark, and former Cowboys in Dalton Schultz, Cedrick Wilson, and Biadasz. This is certainly a positive as management has a history of adding talent to the roster with those selections.
