Cowboys Get Massive Jake Ferguson Injury Update on Monday
By Jovan Alford
The Dallas Cowboys suffered a scare during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns as tight end Jake Ferguson suffered a left knee injury.
Ferguson exited the game with 6:23 left in the third quarter and didn’t return, finishing with three receptions for 15 yards. After the game, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters that the third-year tight end was “in good spirits and moving around well in the locker room,” per Jon Machota of The Athletic.
On Monday, the Cowboys received further clarification on the extent of Ferguson’s injury and if he’ll miss any time.
Cowboys News: Jake Ferguson’s Knee Injury Not Considered Serious
According to Ed Werder, Dallas believes that the 25-year-old pass catcher’s is not serious and will miss a minimal amount of time, if any.
It was reported on Sunday that Ferguson would undergo an MRI on Monday. However, his X-rays were negative and his ACL is reportedly intact, which is a good sign.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network adds that Ferguson has an MCL sprain, which will force him to miss some time, but it's not a season-ending injury. The Pro Bowl tight end took to Twitter Monday and tweeted, "God is good."
With Ferguson likely to miss next week’s game against the New Orleans Saints, Dallas could roll with Luke Schoonmaker, Brevyn Spann-Ford, and John Stephens. For Schoonmaker, this is a huge opportunity for him after a disappointing rookie season in 2023.
Schoonmaker and Spann-Ford played 19 offensive snaps in Sunday’s win over the Browns so they could see an uptick in snaps against the Saints.
