The Dallas Cowboys have made it clear they're interested in new free agent Shaquille Leonard. The former First Team All-Pro would provide the team with some accomplished depth following the loss of Leighton Vander Esch, so it's no wonder both parties are open to joining forces.

However, a threat to steal Leonard away in free agency has now emerged.

Cowboys Rumors: New Competition for Shaquille Leonard?

CBS Sports' Josina Anderson reports the Philadelphia Eagles have "increasing interest in pursuing" Leonard following Week 12. Philadelphia saw starting linebacker Zach Cunningham go down on Sunday, which has kick-started their pursuit again after being linked to Leonard before.

Well, this certainly complicates things. The Eagles have an aggressive GM in Howie Roseman who would love nothing more than to bolster his roster and take a swipe at the Cowboys all in one move. He can also potentially offer a starting role if Cunningham is sidelined for a period of time, which would definitely appeal to the three-time Pro Bowler.

Philadelphia just made a significant free-agent pitch as well by emerging with a thrilling win in overtime this weekend. That victory pushed the Eagles' record to 10-1 and has them being looked at as a Super Bowl favorite.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys aren't being spoken about in the same light given their struggles against teams with winning records. However, they're in the contender conversation, especially considering how well Dak Prescott is playing right now.

It looks like the Leonard sweepstakes will be decided in the NFC East. Dallas has the advantage with a visit scheduled for Tuesday, though the team has to act fast to ensure Leonard's not swayed to the dark side before then.
