5 Key Cowboys Who Will Be Free Agents After 2023 Season

It's sweet having one of the most talent-loaded roster in the NFL. But that becomes bitter-sweet once you starting looking at the future and thinking about trying to keep that roster together.
That's what's going on in Dallas right now. Jerry Jones is scrambling to keep as much of the Cowboys' top-end talent under contract as possible, but the salary cap is making that very difficult, especially with the ongoing potential of a Dak Prescott contract extension looming.
Despite moving early with some re-signing this offseason, the Cowboys still have some very important players set to become free at the end of the season, including these five key pieces.
Cowboys Upcoming Free Agents 2024
Stephon Gilmore
Despite looking pretty good as he returned from injury in 2021, Stephon Gilmore signed on a pretty cheap deal with the Indianapolis Colts last offseason. That deal stayed with him when he was traded to the Cowboys, meaning we get the final year of that two-year, $20 million contract.
A former Defensive Player of the Year, Gilmore showed he still has plenty left in the tank last season, posting a top-10 coverage grade among all corners in 2022 on Pro Football Focus.
He got no fanfare, however, because most fans seemed to forget the Colts even existed. That will all change in 2023.
He's surrounded by a ridiculous amount of talent this year and playing in the most heavily-covered team in the NFL. Everyone will be watching (and talking about) Gilmore, and there's zero chance he's available at a bargain after the 2023 season unless he plays totally falls apart.
Dallas has extended a ton of their top players this offseason, but it's going to prove very difficult to keep Gilmore around beyond 2023.
