Cowboys Named 'Best Fit' for Free Agent to Solve Tyron Smith Problem
It has been an underwhelming offseason for Dallas Cowboys thus far. They have seen starters and coaches walk out of the building but the biggest loss was along the offensive line.
Offensive tackle Tyron Smith touched the free agent market and signed a one-year deal, worth up to $20 million with the New York Jets.
There is now a massive hole at tackle and the Cowboys need to find a way to fill that need.
ESPN's Bill Barnwell released an article with the Top 20 remaining free agents and a landing spot for each of them. Barnwell listed guard Laken Tomlinson as the best fit with the Cowboys.
Cowboys Rumors: Laken Tomlinson Listed as Perfect Fit for Dallas
Barnwell states that if Dallas moves Tyler Smith out to tackle, Tomlinson could slide into guard.
Tomlinson was recently cut by the New York Jets after having two disappointing seasons with the team.
Prior to that run in New York, he was with the San Francisco 49ers from 2017-2021, where he logged a Pro Bowl appearance in 2021.
Tomlinson would be a low-cost signing at this point and could be a calm addition to that guard slot. Barnwell believes the Duke product would help the Cowboys in short-yardage and goal-line situations, an area where they struggled last season.
Despite the lack of moves in free agency, Dallas has one of the best rosters in the NFL. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Cowboys have the fifth-highest odds (+1300) to win the Super Bowl. If you like these odds, head over to FanDuel Sportsbook and take advantage of your sign-up bonus.
