On Tuesday morning, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Dallas Cowboys waived third-year tight end Peyton Hendershot

However, Hendershot won’t be cut by Dallas. Instead, he will be traded before the 4 pm ET deadline. According to Pelissero, the Cowboys are sending the former Indiana tight end to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The NFL insider adds Kansas City is sending a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick to Dallas for Hendershot. The former undrafted free agent was on the roster bubble after missing most of the preseason with a shoulder injury.

Hendershot played 25 games over his first two years with the Cowboys, including eight last season. The 25-year-old pass catcher had his 2023 campaign cut short by an ankle injury, which forced him to get offseason injury.

Hendershot had four receptions (seven targets) for 38 yards in eight games last season. As a rookie in 2022, he produced 11 receptions (16 targets) for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

The 6-foot-4 tight end will try to get his career back on track with the Chiefs. Kansas City cut former Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. on Tuesday, opening up an opportunity for Hendershot.

Cowboys fans are disappointed to see things not work out with Hendershot, who showed a ton of promise as a UDFA in 2022. However, he’ll get another chance to figure things out in Kansas City.

Finally, the Cowboys will likely roll with John Stephens Jr. or Brevyn Spann-Ford as their TE3 to start the 2024 regular season.
