Cowboys Receive Devastating Injury News After Preseason Opener
By Jovan Alford
The Dallas Cowboys left Sunday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams with a significant injury concern on the offensive line.
Veteran offensive tackle Chuma Edoga left the preseason opener in the first quarter with a toe injury and was reportedly seen in a walking boot. Edoga was listed as the starting left tackle on Dallas’ depth chart and rookie Tyler Guyton was listed with the second team.
However, the Cowboys might have to elevate Guyton to the first team based on the latest injury update on Edoga.
According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, Edoga will likely open the season on injured reserve after suffering a significant injury to his big left toe. Moore adds that the veteran won’t have to undergo surgery, but extensive rehab is ahead.
If you are the Cowboys, you are taking a huge sigh of relief as it doesn’t appear that Edoga will not miss the entire 2024 season. The fact that surgery is off the table, allows the veteran to find his way back onto the field if rehab goes well.
Thankfully, the Cowboys already have their replacement for Edoga in Guyton, who was drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The former Oklahoma lineman received high praise from one of his fellow offensive linemen to start training camp, which is a good sign.
The 22-year-old rookie played well in the Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Rams and will need to carry that into the final two games and the rest of training camp. Dallas’ o-line has seen a ton of change this year as Tyler Biadasz and Tyron Smith left in free agency.
Without those two stalwarts anchoring the Cowboys’ offensive line, it puts a ton of pressure on Terence Steele, Brock Hoffman, Zack Martin, and now Guyton to protect starting quarterback Dak Prescott this season.
