The Dallas Cowboys will suddenly be without one of their best players for a majority of the regular season as All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland is undergoing foot surgery to repair a stress fracture.

He'll miss up to eight weeks, pouring gasoline on the concerning fire growing around the organization that claims to have Super Bowl aspirations. After Trevon Diggs went down with an injury in 2023, Bland stepped up in a major way to give the fanbase a glimpse of what the duo could look like together.

Unfortunately, Cowboys fans will have to wait a while longer to see that dream in action.

Cowboys News: CB DaRon Bland to Miss Up to Eight Weeks

Originally a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Bland burst onto the scene in the 2023 season in Diggs' place.

Bland compiled 69 tackles with a league-leading nine interceptions, five of which were returned for TDs. He finished fifth in the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year vote, earning First-Team All-Pro honors in the process. Opposing quarterbacks had just a 60.8 passer rating when targeting the former Fresno State standout.

Following the contentious contract negotations with CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, and Dak Prescott, Bland's injury is the worst news Dallas could've received. No part of this team feels stable, and Jerry Jones is hardly the proven steady voice to right the ship.

In all likelihood, Bland will return following the Cowboys' bye in Week 7. If his injury lingers longer, the defense will struggle to replicate the fantastic 2023 results that made it one of the NFL's elite units.
