The Dallas Cowboys are back in a big way after dismantling the New England Patriots 38-3 on Sunday, quickly putting their embarrassing Week 3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the rearview. Next up will be their biggest of the season yet -- a Week 5 road clash with the undefeated San Francisco 49ers.
Both teams have legitimate Super Bowl hopes this year, setting the stage for an epic clash on Sunday Night Football this week. Here's what the oddsmakers have to say about it.
Cowboys vs. 49ers Week 5 Opening Odds
Not surprisingly, the 49ers are slightly favored in this one. The home team typically gets three points on the spread, and that's what we're essentially seeing here with San Francisco at -3.5.
While the Cowboys are 3-1, we've also yet to face a serious contender this year. The Cardinals, Giants, Jets and Patriots are a combined 4-11 so far, so Dallas has been beating up on bad teams and has yet to play the cream of the crop.
Then again, you could say the same thing about the 49ers. They've beaten the Giants, Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Rams, who are a combined 6-10. No wonder San Fran's won every game by at least a touchdown.
The oddsmakers are expecting that trend to end in Week 5, however. The Cowboys will be the toughest team the 49ers have faced so far as well.
That makes this game tough to predict, as it could go either way. Dallas is certainly a live dog, boasting the best defense in the NFL and an offense that has only scored 1 point less than San Francisco's so far.
The Cowboys are definitely capable of keeping this game within a field goal or winning outright, making Dallas +3.5 an attractive betting option.
