Cowboys vs Eagles Opening Odds for Week 9 Are Dead Wrong About Dallas
By Tyler Maher
The Dallas Cowboys seemingly took full advantage of their bye week in Week 7, as they came out ready to go in Week 8. The Cowboys smashed the Los Angeles Rams 43-20, improving to 5-2 with their fourth blowout win of the season.
Up next is a tough divisional road matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9. These two NFC East contenders have yet to face each other this year, so here's what oddsmakers have to say about their impending showdown.
Cowboys vs Eagles Week 9 Opening Odds
As of Monday, DraftKings has Dallas as a 3-point road underdog in Week 9, which seems a little absurd.
The Eagles may be 7-1, but they barely beat the Washington Commanders in Week 8. Their defense got shredded by Sam Howell and co. for 31 points and 472 total yards -- both season-worsts.
Philly's defense has been a problem for a while now, and now it's going up against a potent Cowboys offense that just torched the Rams for a season-high 43 points. Talk about a nightmare matchup.
Dallas' record isn't as good, but statistically it's the better team. The Cowboys are second in scoring and fourth in points allowed, resulting in a +77 point differential. The Eagles, on the other hand, are third in scoring but 18th in points allowed (+52 point differential).
This is Philadelphia's last game before its bye week, which can always be a bit of a trap game. The Eagles are a bit banged up right now, while Dallas is much healthier and better-rested one week removed from its bye.
In a battle between two evenly matched offenses, the Cowboys' superior defense should make the difference.
