The NFL offseason for Dallas has centered around CeeDee Lamb’s ongoing push for a new contract, but there’s finally some good news.

Dak Prescott revealed Tuesday that he’s been throwing with Lamb and the star receiver ‘is going to be ready’ for this upcoming season, per a report from Jon Machota of The Athletic.

That’s far from a guarantee that Lamb will be suited up for Week 1, but it’s certainly a sign.

Lamb Contract Negotiations Likely to End Soon

Having Lamb on the field is absolutely essential for the Cowboys this season.

That goes without saying when it comes to a player in his prime who is coming off a record-setting season.

Without Lamb, Prescott’s primary weapons are Brandin Cooks, Jake Ferguson, Jalen Tolbert, and Ezekiel Elliott.

Those four players combined to have 198 receptions for 1,999 yards and 17 TDs.

Lamb, meanwhile, had 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 TDs by himself.

The timing of these negotiations is smart by Lamb, as his leverage has never been higher, and he assuredly wants to secure a long-term raise before Dallas has the chance to franchise tag him in 2025.

But there’s also not a lot of reason to worry – especially after these comments from Prescott.

Prescott is due to become a free agent in 2025, and it would be foolish to not bring back his top weapon and risk alienating him while trying to work out an extension.

This also isn’t uncharted territory with this franchise.

Elliott dealt with negotiations that resulted in him holding out for the entire preseason in 2019, but he ultimately was given a six-year, $90 million extension.

Just last year, right guard Zack Martin held out before he was rewarded with a reworked contract that gave him $36 million over two seasons.

Lamb is much more valuable to Dallas than either Elliott or Martin was at the time of their holdouts, which means Jerry Jones has even less leverage to work with here.

Be patient, Cowboys fans!
