After earning 4-2 series wins in each of the first two rounds of the 2023-24 NBA Playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks are staring down another potential trip to the NBA Finals.

Fans don't want to get ahead of themselves and overlook the Minnesota Timberwolves, but taking a 1-0 series lead makes it impossible to keep our thoughts entirely in the present moment. No amount of trying to ground yourself will entirely keep away visions of Luka Doncic hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

So since we can't avoid thinking about it, let's lean in. Here's a full look at the Mavs' history in the NBA Finals.

Dallas Mavericks NBA Finals MVP

The Dallas Mavericks have one NBA Finals MVP award winner in franchise history. Predictably, it came in the 2010-11 season, when they won their only championship. Most Mavs fans don't need me to tell them that the award was taken home by Dirk Nowitzki, who averaged 26.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 40.3 minutes per game. Making things even sweeter, Dirk significantly out-scored and out-rebounded LeBron James (17.8 points, 7.2 rebounds per game in the series).

How many NBA Championships do the Mavericks have?

The Mavericks have one NBA Championship, which they won in the 2010-11 season in six games over the Miami Heat. This series earned Dirk Nowitzki the franchise's only NBA Finals MVP award as he led a squad that included Jason Kidd, Tyson Chandler, Shawn Marion, Jason Terry and J.J. Barea to a win over the Miami Heat's "Big 3" of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

When is the last time the Dallas Mavericks made the NBA Finals?

The 2010-11 season is also the last time the Mavericks made it to the NBA Finals. Since then they have come close twice: first when they lost the Western Conference Finals to the Golden State Warriors in 2022 and now again that they'e back in the Western Conference Finals in 2024.

How many Finals appearances do the Mavericks have?

The Mavericks have two NBA Finals appearances in franchise history. In addition to that 2011 win, they made their first-ever appearance in the 2006 NBA Finals. The Heat, this time led by Wade, Shaquille O'Neal, and Antoine Walker, defeated the Mavs in six games. This was despite strong efforts from both Dirk Nowitzki (22.8 points, 10.8 rebounds per game) and Jason Terry (22.0 points per game).

How many teams have never won the NBA Championship?

With one championship win, the Mavericks rank ahead of the following franchises who have never won an NBA Championship: Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz.
