Even though this is back-to-back seasons in the Western Conference Finals, making the Stanley Cup hasn't exactly been a common occurrence for Stars fans recently.

So let's dive in and look at the Stars' history in the Stanley Cup, dating all the way back to the Minnesota North Stars Days.

There are two things to note about the series above: the bottom three (1990-91, 1983-84 and 1980-81) were all as the Minnesota North Stars. That 1980-81 appearance was also not technically the Western Conference Finals, as it was simply known as the NHL Semi-Finals that year.

Dallas Stars Conn Smythe Winners (Playoff MVP)

The Conn Smythe Trophy, which is the NHL's award for playoff MVP, was introduced in 1964. That means it has been around for every single season that the Stars have.

Despite this, the Stars only have one Conn Smythe winner in either the Minnesota or Dallas Eras.

In 1999, Joe Nieuwendyk won the award for his efforts leading the team to its first (and so far only) Stanley Cup win.

Nieuwendyk scored a postseason-high 11 goals while adding 10 assists in 23 games. Those 21 points were easily a personal postseason best (his next-highest mark was 14 points back in the 1988-89 season with the Calgary Flames). A whopping 6 of his 11 goals were game-winning goals.

How many Stanley Cup wins do the Stars have?

The Stars have won one Stanley Cup in franchise history. They won zero as the Minnesota North Stars from 1967 to 1993, and after moving to Dallas won their first (and so far only) Stanley Cup in the 1998-99 season, defeating the Buffalo Sabres in six games.

How many times have the Stars reached the Stanley Cup?

The Stars have had much more success reaching the Stanley Cup than winning it. They have five Stanley Cup appearances as a franchise, including two as the Minnesota North Stars (1980-81 and 1990-91) and three as the Dallas Stars (1998-99, 1999-00, 2019-20).

How many times have the Stars reached the Western Conference Finals?

The Stars have reached the Western Conference Finals (or NHL Semi-Finals) 10 times. Three of those appearances (1980-81, 1983-84, 1990-91) came in the Minnesota years, with seven (1997-98, 1998-99, 1999-00, 2007-08, 2019-20, 2022-23, 2023-24) in the Dallas era.

How many NHL teams have never won the Stanley Cup?

The Stars' 1 Stanley Cup win means they have more championships than the following franchises, who have never won the Cup: Arizona Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets.
