Dallas Cowboys fans have been disappointed by the team's approach to free agency so far, and last night's splashy defensive signing doesn't totally fix that.

One position that still sorely needs addressing is running back, and fans in Dallas have had to watch just about every top available player at the position sign elsewhere — including with some rival NFC contenders.

Without many options left, one is now clearly angling to wind up a Cowboy.

Cowboys Rumors: Dalvin Cook Wants to Sign in Dallas?

Former Minnesota Vikings/New York Jets/Baltimore Ravens running back Dalvin Cook has been heavily active in following the Cowboys' offseason on social media, following plenty of Cowboys fan accounts and liking tweets about the Dallas offseason.

But this is one of those situations where Cook's interest might not even matter. Dallas needs a running back, but I'm not sure anyone needs Dalvin Cook at this point.

Cook already seemed to be on the decline when he left the Vikings for the Jets last year, and he was abysmal in New York. His 3.2 yards per carry were terrible, and they look even worse when you consider that the Jets as a team averaged 4.2.

He only notched 8 carries with the Ravens in the posteason, but he performed poorly with those carries too, averaging just 2.9 yards per carry. Pro Football Focus agrees with the assesment of how poorly he played, giving him a brutal rushing grade of just 51.5.

The Cowboys are currently favorites to win the NFC East even without addressing the running back position.

Deuce Vaughn is clearly not the answer as a workhorse RB1, and the team will need to bring in some outside help. But Cook simply doesn't count as help at this point. At best he's someone you can bring in to fight for a roster spot in training camp, but I'd expect even then he wouldn't end up making the final 53-man roster.

There are still some good options available for Dallas, including another former Viking, so it's not time to panic and sign a guy like Cook.
