The Dallas Cowboys are in a tough spot this offseason, and that's going to continue right through into next offseason. The Tony Pollard franchise tag and Zack Martin holdout threat are just the tip of the iceberg with a ton of key players being due for new contracts. One of the most important is cornerback Trevon Diggs

Dez Bryant has never been shy about speaking out since leaving the Cowboys, and he revealed some inside information on how they've been handling Diggs' contract negotiations. What is happening hasn't made the former star happy.

Trevon Diggs Contract Rumors

Bryant didn't want to divulge much from his personal conversations with Diggs, but he reports that Dallas is "not trying to be fair to him." He also thinks Diggs is being more than fair on his side of the negotiations, adding that he "is not trying to knock [the Cowboys] across the head."

And at least from an outside perspective, that appears to be true. As we're seeing with Martin right now, Dallas is in a tough spot as a win-now team, and that gives the star players a lot of leverage in potential contract negotiations. The big number of players needing new deals also means that it could pay to be the first one to press the issue, getting a new deal while there's still cap space available. But Diggs has remained quiet, at least publicly.

There's absolutely no question that Diggs is deserving of a huge payday. He's one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, he's only 24 years old and his rookie deal only has him as the league's 30th-highest paid player at the position.

There's no doubt that he would totally break the bank on the open market. The fact that he's already negotiating with Dallas and, if Bryant is to believed, doing it fairly is a testament to how much he wants to stay and win with this team.

So if Diggs is going to do his part to make this relationship work, then Jerry Jones needs to step up and make things right on their side, too.

The Cowboys are one of the best teams in the NFC, ranking third in the odds to win the conference in 2023 (+600). But keeping this roster together is going to take a little more flexibility from the front office.
