The Cowboys are turning to a familiar well to potentially bolster two positions, reportedly holding workouts for three defensive ends and one running back on Tuesday at The Star in Frisco.

All four players come from the UFL, a common theme after Dallas' two signings in free agency last week. Jonathan Garvin of the San Birmingham Stallions, Wyatt Ray and John Lovett of the San Antonio Brahmas, and Derick Roberson of the DC Defenders all participated in the workout.

We knew about Garvin, who previously played in the NFL for the Packers, though the others illustrate a clear willingness from the Cowboys to find promising players in the UFL.

Garvin, Ray, and Roberson are all defensive ends who displayed impressive pass-rushing ability over the last couple of months. Garvin had 3.5 sacks, Ray tied for sixth-most with 5.5, and Roberson clocked in right behind him at 4.5.

Dallas is thin on the edge outside of Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, giving one or more of these players a chance to stick with the roster for training camp.

Running back might be the Cowboys' worst position room relative to the rest of the NFL. Lovett ranked fourth in the UFL in rushing yards (423) and tied for second in rushing TDs (5). At the least, bringing him in suggests Dallas is open to adding players to the group.

None of these players have officially been signed yet, but it's clear the Cowboys want to make a move before training camp. That they brought in three defensive lineman indicates that position is a high priority, though I'm paying attention to their interest in running backs as well.

The front office identified something they like in UFL players, so don't be surprised if we see more of these workouts over the next couple of weeks.
