Former Cowboys WR James Washington is attempting an NFL comeback. He appeared in two games with Dallas in 2022 but missed most of the last two seasons with a Jones fracture in his foot.

Originally drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington showed flashes early in his career but was ultimately overshadowed and lost favor with the organization. Still only 28 years old, he's hoping to join a team for training camp and prove he still belongs in the league.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Washington has multiple suitors in anticipation of a tryout.

Former Cowboys WR James Washington Eyeing NFL Comeback

Expectations for Washington were high when he entered the league after three straight seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards at Oklahoma State. He caught 74 passes for 1,549 yards (20.9 YPC) and 13 TDs in 2017, establishing himself as one of the premier players in college football.

Washington's production never materialized consistently at the professional level. After a quiet rookie campaign, he flashed with 44 receptions and 735 yards (16.7 YPC) in 2019 and scored five TDs in 2020, though the Steelers kept adding receivers and Washington fell down the depth chart.

Shortly after joining the Cowboys, the 5'11", 213 LB wideout hurt his foot and ultimately required surgery, ending his brief stint with Dallas. The last time he had significant snaps in the NFL was 2021, appearing 15 games with the Steelers and notching 24 catches for 285 yards and two TDs.

His best days are probably behind him. It hasn't yet been reported who the interested teams are, so perhaps the Cowboys are one of them. They could use depth at the position and maybe Washington has some juice left, though it's likely he's already exhausted his chance with the organization.
