Week 8, Sunday Oct. 27, Cowboys at 49ers (Sunday Night Football)

This is the one that was circled on the calendar.

For the past several years, the San Francisco 49ers have been a thorn in the side of the Cowboys. They knocked them out of the playoffs following the 2021 campaign in a 23-17 slugfest. They met again following the 2022 season and it was even more of a defensive battle with San Francisco coming out on top 19-12. That was the game where Kellen Moore came up with the worst offensive play imaginable, resulting in Ezekiel Elliott being bulldozed while playing center.

In 2023, they were ready to prove they could go toe-to-toe with the 49ers and called their Week 5 matchup with them a measuring stick game. It didn't take long to see they didn't measure up — at all.

San Francisco humiliated them by a score of 42-10. The offense was non-existent, Dak Prescott threw three picks (and had just six in the other 16 games), and the defense let Brock Purdy do his best impersonation of Joe Montana.

Dallas wanted to get back at this team in the postseason, but it's hard to see a different outcome. Dan Quinn, the defensive coordinator at the time, has been historically dominated by Kyle Shanahan and every coach from his tree. Perhaps it will be different with Mike Zimmer, but probably not. The 49ers boast a roster that's just a terrible matchup for Dallas. This one will be ugly and again, the "sky is falling" attitude will begin.

Score Prediction: 49ers 38, Cowboys 20
