Latest DeMarcus Lawrence Injury News is Gutting for Cowboys
By Jovan Alford
The Dallas Cowboys defensive line is in trouble after seeing Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence suffering multi-week injuries on Thursday night against the Dallas Cowboys.
Between the two defenders, Parsons has a slightly better injury diagnosis as he’ll reportedly be re-evaluated in 7-10 days after suffering a high-ankle sprain. As for Lawrence, it was reported on Friday that he’ll be out for multiple weeks.
However, the Cowboys received a more concrete picture of the veteran defender’s foot injury on Sunday, which could impact Dallas in the short and long term.
According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Lawrence is dealing with a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. But the good news for the Cowboys is that Lawrence’s bones were not displaced and won’t require surgery.
That said, the 32-year-old defensive end could need 4-8 weeks to recover and will likely head to injured reserve.
If the Cowboys put Lawrence on injured reserve, they could sign veteran defender Carl Lawson to the 53-man roster. The 6-foot-3 pass rusher has been called up twice from the practice squad this season, posting 14 combined tackles, 10 quarterback pressures, five quarterback hits, four tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble.
Lawson will be an adequate replacement for Lawrence, who has gotten off to a torrid pace. That said, the Cowboys must make another signing to address the defensive line depth, as losing him and Parsons is not ideal with the upcoming schedule.
The Cowboys will play the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions in Weeks 5 and 6 before having a bye in Week 7.
