The Dallas Cowboys are surging and have an opportunity to bolster their stellar defense by adding former All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard, though the most recent report is discouraging news for Dallas.
Leonard intends to sign with a contender as soon as this week, entertaining conversations with the Cowboys and the Eagles, and Philadelphia reportedly has optimism he'll join the Eagles.

No concrete, definitive information can be garnered from this report, as NFL Insider Josina Anderson chose her words carefully.
That being said, there's often fire where there's smoke. Anderson wouldn't issue this report for no reason, so members inside the Eagles organization at least have some reason to be optimistic.
The Cowboys square off with the Eagles this week after an impressive string of wins, though beating the Eagles in the Leonard sweepstakes could prove just as large of a win as a potential victory on Sunday Night Football would be.
Leonard is one of the best linebackers of the last half-decade, securing four All-Pro nominations while winning Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2018. Players of his caliber don't typically become available late in the season and adding his services would be a massive boost to the Cowboys' Super Bowl chances.
We'll see what ultimately comes of the Leonard negotiations, but it seems the Cowboys' front office has some work to do this week aside from preparing for the Eagles.
