The Dallas Cowboys are back in action this week after being away on their bye. Following the time off, hopefully this squad is feeling primed to finish the second half of the year strong.

A week to recover and review film should help Dallas start to solve some of its early woes. However, the team is set to get an even bigger boost thanks to the latest development on the coaching staff.

Cowboys Week 8 News

Mike McCarthy told reporters on Wednesday that RBs coach and run game coordinator Jeff Blasko is finally back with the Cowboys. He was forced to miss the first six games of the season while on a medical leave of absence, but will return to the sideline in Week 8.

This might seem like minor news in the grand scheme, as most probably didn't even know Blasko was missing, but it could actually have significant implications.

Dallas has mostly struggled to get its run game going in 2023 with Blasko out. While they're tenth in rushing yards per game, their 3.9 yards per attempt is tied for the eighth-lowest mark in the league, showcasing some clear ineffectiveness. With the Cowboys touting the sixth-highest run play call percentage (46.43%), just think about how much more explosive this offense would be if the ground attack improves its efficiency.

Blasko's return should help start to turn things around. He previously served as an offensive line coach in Dallas, which gives him a strong background in knowing how to best maximize the run game. His work with the O-line helped Tony Pollard put together a career year in 2022, and now he'll get to focus solely on helping the electric running back break out after a sluggish start to 2023.

A better run game means a better offense, and the Cowboys could certainly use a boost there following some inconsistent performances. Hopefully Blasko helps remedy some of the early issues and the ground attack takes off from here.
