Mike McCarthy Crushes Cowboys Fans' Hopes With Confirmation of Starting Running Back
The Dallas Cowboys have been preparing this week for the season opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Dallas had a dramatic offseason that was surrounded by drama due to contract talks and a lack of additions through free agency and the trade market.
The Cowboys are seeking to put all of this behind them and get ready for the 2024 season. Dallas decided to bring back Ezekiel Elliott to the Lone Star State and recently added Dalvin Cook to the mix.
Despite these additions, head coach Mike McCarthy's latest statement revealed the team has plans for another running back on the roster.
Cowboys News: Rico Dowdle Will Play Less on Special Teams in 2024
When speaking to reporters on Aug. 29, McCarthy said that running back Rico Dowdle will play less special team snaps in 2024 because he will have a larger role offensively.
For some time now, it's been rumored that Dowdle would have increased opportunities on the offensive end this year. Some fans aren't too thrilled with the news, especially after the team added both Zeke and Cook this offseason.
But regardless of how they feel, Dowdle has impressed the coaching staff enough and will see more chances on the offensive end.
The South Carolina product has the juice to get around the corner with no hesitation in finding the open gap. In 2023, he finished with career-highs in carries (89), rushing yards (361), receiving yards (144), and total touchdowns (4).
The Cowboys will take the running back committee approach in 2024 and Dowdle will be a part of the rotation that will get some action this fall.
