Things change quickly in the NFL. That's the beauty and difficult part of the business. In Week 1, the Cowboys had an impressive 33-17 win on the road over the Cleveland Browns, and the vibes were sky-high in Dallas.

But just one week later and things completely flipped. On Sunday, the Cowboys were embarrassed by the New Orleans Saints 44-19. They looked unprepared and let the Saints come into their building to take over.

Owner Jerry Jones was disappointed by the team's performance and McCarthy's comments on Monday won't make anyone feel better.

Cowboys News: Mike McCarthy’s Comments on Monday Are Puzzling

McCarthy was talking to team reporters on Monday, and he discussed the Week 2 performance by the team.

"I wouldn’t say it’s an effort issue. I think it really was they were quicker to the first punch than we were. They finished better than we did."

Those comments aren't what you want to hear from the man in charge. From the opening kickoff, it looked like the Cowboys weren't ready to play. New Orleans finished with 432 yards of offense, went 5-of-8 on third down, and averaged a whopping 7.7 yards per play!

New Orleans scored on their first five possessions and completely overpowered Dallas. If that's not a lack of effort, I'm not sure what is.

The Cowboys got punched in the mouth and McCarthy seems to be overlooking that. The pressure is on both McCarthy and Dallas to overcome the naysayers this year.

McCarthy is in the last year of his deal and needs to have his team ready to ball. If not, there'll be a new lead man in charge next season and there is a couple of exciting options for Dallas to choose from.
