The Dallas Cowboys have been talked about consistently throughout the offseason for a variety of different reasons. With mandatory minicamps taking place from June 4-6 for the Cowboys, this was the first chance to have everyone on the team report to the facility but that wasn't the case.

CeeDee Lamb did not report to minicamp amid contract discussions. Lamb had to watch as another WR got paid, as Minnesota Viking superstar Justin Jefferson inked a four-year, $140 million extension on July 3.

Jefferson is making $35 million annually so Lamb will certainly look to get more or around the mark on his new deal.

Even though Lamb isn't present, head coach Mike McCarthy took a surprising stance and supported his star player.

Cowboys News: Mike McCarthy Supports CeeDee Lamb's Absense

When speaking to reporters, McCarthy made it known he wasn't worried about Lamb being away from the team.

The 60-year-old says that Lamb has been engaged throughout the offseason before adding that it's a 'business decision' and he doesn't have any issue with how veterans prepare on the team.

This is a bit surprising, especially after McCarthy seemed to have a problem with Micah Parsons missing OTAs. McCarthy said Parsons is in good shape but has some 'work to do'. It may bother McCarthy more since Dallas has a new defensive coordinator in Mike Zimmer.

Offensively, it's the same system going into this year so McCarthy isn't worried about Lamb missing a beat.

Regardless, the Cowboys need to find a way to pay Lamb and get their best offensive playmaker in the building.

In 2023, Lamb set career-highs in targets (181), receptions (135), receiving yards (1,749), and receiving touchdowns (12).

The WR market continues to blow up as Justin Jefferson became the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL after he signed a four-year, $140 million extension.

Jerry Jones and company need to cough up the money to get Lamb locked down for the long term but as of right now, McCarthy isn't too pressed his star isn't participating in minicamp.
