The Dallas Cowboys defensive line got hit twice by the injury bug on Thursday night as they saw DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons leave the game with foot and ankle injuries.

It was the worst-case scenario for the Cowboys, who didn’t have much quality defensive line depth to start the 2024 season after Sam Williams suffered a season-ending injury in training camp.

Meanwhile, Parsons’ diagnosis is much better than Lawrence, who is expected to miss multiple weeks because of his foot injury. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Parsons, who suffered a high-ankle sprain, will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days.

Based on that timeline, the star pass rusher will certainly miss next week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Week 6 against the Detroit Lions. With the Cowboys having a bye in Week 7, the soonest we could see Parsons back on the field is in Week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Cowboys’ defense should be able to handle business against the pedestrian Steelers’ offense, but not having Parsons against Detroit’s offense will not be an easy task for Dallas’ defense, which had troubles against the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens.

Without Parsons on the field, Cowboys rookie pass rusher Marshawn Kneeland will see an increase in snaps. The rookie defender has eight combined tackles, five QB pressures, three quarterback hits, and a tackle for loss in four games.

However, Kneeland won't be able to replace Parsons' production by himself. Therefore, we should expect the Cowboys to make a move this week to address the defensive line depth.
