Cowboys' defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins is battling an injury that may keep him out for the remainder of the regular season and the perfect potential depth just became available.

The Chargers surprisingly released Sebastian Joseph-Day Friday after he started 14 games for Los Angeles, and he's now free to join a playoff contender.

While Dallas expects Hankins back soon, adding Joseph-Day is a no-brainer for insurance.

Cowboys Rumors: DT Sebastian Joseph-Day Now Available

Joseph-Day has 31 tackles with three sacks this year, eerily similar numbers to Hankins' 26 tackles and three sacks.

The two would compliment each other well, adding a reliable, athletic run-stopper to help battle the Eagles and 49ers in the NFC. At the least, adding Joseph-Day would be a positive to prevent either of those teams from acquiring his services as well.

Dallas already has one of the league's best defenses but it did surrender 31 points to the Bills while James Cook rushed for a season-high in yards, and allowed 35 to the Seahawks two weeks prior. Defensive reinforcements can always provide a boost, especially a proven run-defender like Joseph-Day.

We haven't heard from Joseph-Day's camp or seen rumors regarding his future team, though we'll pass along any updates as they become available.

If he's truly interested in joining a contender that needs his services, Joseph-Day and the Cowboys are as logical a fit as you'll find.
