The Dallas Cowboys own one of the NFL's best records heading into Week 12 at 7-3. However, any hopeful contender should always be on the lookout for midseason additions who could provide depth, or potentially more, down the stretch.

As it just turns out, one perfect target has just become available for Jerry Jones' squad.

The Indianapolis Colts elected to waive linebacker Shaquille Leonard on Tuesday, ending his run with the team that originally drafted him in 2018. While Leonard enjoyed incredible success in Indy, his last few years have been plagued by injuries, and the front office has decided to move on from the vet as its youth movement continues.

It's safe to say this move has sent shockwaves through the league. Both because it came out of the blue, and the fact Leonard is a disruptive talent who boasts three First Team All-Pro nods to his name.

The Cowboys should absolutely consider adding the three-time Pro Bowler if he clears waivers. Leonard put together an eye-popping four-year run to begin his NFL career that saw him rack up 17 forced fumbles, 15.0 sacks, 30 passes defended and 30 tackles for loss. He even led the league in total and solo tackles as a rookie in 2018, showcasing his incredible talents.

It's safe to wonder if he'll ever return to the height of his powers with a laundry list of health issues that have followed through the years, including ankle and back surgeries that have sapped some of his effectiveness. The Cowboys are no strangers to injury issues at linebacker considering all Leighton Vander Esch has been through.

That being said, Leonard doesn't need to be signed with the idea he'll be another star piece for this defense. Instead, he should be looked at as an experienced depth option who could still show flashes of his former self. He has managed to play in nine games this season, so his body is in a better place than it has been.

It's hard to argue against bringing in Leonard as extra depth to close the season. Defensive mastermind Dan Quinn would surely know how to maximize Leonard within his scheme, and the veteran wouldn't need to lead a defense considering the star power he'd be surrounded by.

A partnership between both sides makes a ton of sense, especially with a Super Bowl ring eluding the linebacker to this point and the Cowboys providing an obvious fit on a contender.

As the 'Boys contemplate a deal with Leonard, you can snag one of your own at BetMGM. They're offering new users $200 in bonus bets for simply placing a first wager of only $10. Check out the link below to get started today!
