For much of Thursday night, it looked like the Rangers were finally going to snap their six-game losing streak.

Marcus Semien set the tone with a leadoff homer off Pablo Lopez, and by the middle of the fifth inning the lead had grown to 5-2. Andrew Heaney was pitching surprisingly well, and Texas seemed on its way to its first win in over a week.

Things quickly unraveled from there, however. Heaney didn't survive the fifth, necessitating an early call to the bullpen. The Rangers' bats went cold and the Twins chipped away at the lead, cutting it to 5-4.

Then in the bottom of the eighth, disaster struck. Carlos Correa ripped a game-tying double, and then Ryan Jeffers launched a go-ahead 2-run shot.

When Texas failed to score in the top of the ninth, it left Target Field with a seventh straight defeat.

Even worse for the Rangers, they blew a golden opportunity to extend their lead in the AL West. The Astros lost to the Red Sox earlier in the day and the Mariners were off, giving Texas a chance to take a two-game lead over both clubs. Instead, the lead that was 3.5 games last week is now down to a single game.

Naturally, Rangers fans were not too pleased with how Thursday's game unfolded and took to Twitter to vent. Late-game meltdowns are always demoralizing, especially in the heat of a playoff race when your team desperately needs a win.

Thursday marked the fourth time during the skid that Texas lost by 2 runs or less. Most of the games during this stretch have been winnable, but the Rangers just haven't won any of them.

Texas fans are growing increasingly pessimistic about their team's chances to fend off the reigning World Series champs and hard-charging Mariners down the stretch. A win on Friday sure would be nice, but this four-game series against Minnesota isn't off to a great start.
