Rangers Get Good News on Jon Gray Injury After Early Exit Tuesday
The 2024 MLB season is about a quarter of the way finished and the Texas Rangers are sitting at 24-25 on the year.
The defending champions may not have had the start they wanted but they still have a very talented roster.
They hit a little bit of a rough patch lately, dropping eight of the last 10 games and things could have taken a worse turn on May 21 but the Rangers received some good news regarding starting pitcher Jon Gray.
Rangers News: Jon Gray Is Expected To Make His Next Start
Gray was on the hill on May 21 against the Philadelphia Phillies but had to exit the game early after he felt some tightness in his right groin. Manager Bruce Bochy expressed that no one wanted to push the injury and potentially make it worse.
He's scheduled to get an MRI but Gray stated he believes he will make his next start.
That's great news for the Rangers and the 32-year-old pitcher. This season, Gray is 2-2 with 56 K's and a WHIP of 1.19. He's also 10th in the majors in ERA (2.21).
After allowing five earned runs in his first start of the year against the Chicago Cubs, Gray hasn't allowed more than two earned runs over his next 10 starts.
Gray was also hit by a comeback off the bat of Johan Rojas on Tuesday that had an exit velocity of 96.7 mph. Bochy doesn't think that impacted his groin but regardless Gray will need to take the next couple of days to heal up before taking the mound again.
His next scheduled start is on May 26 against the Minnesota Twins.
