Rangers Named Top Landing Spot for All-Star Free Agent
By Tyler Maher
It's been three weeks since the Texas Rangers finally won their first World Series in franchise history, but the MLB offseason is still waking up. Aside from the big Aaron Nola contract over the weekend, there hasn't been much action in free agency.
That should change soon, though, with the MLB Winter Meetings coming up in early December. There's usually a flurry of activity around that time with many of the sport's top free agents finding new homes.
According to one recent report, the Rangers are the favorites to land one of the top pitchers in baseball.
Josh Hader Rangers Rumors
Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller published a list on Tuesday with the top 10 landing spots for free-agent closer Josh Hader, and Texas was at the top of the list.
Hader signing with the Rangers would make a ton of sense for both sides. Texas needs an established closer to lock down the end of games and has money to spend this winter coming off a championship season. With their lineup and starting rotation mostly set, the Rangers can afford to splurge on their bullpen.
And who better to spend on than arguably the best closer in the game? Hader's a five-time All-Star who's coming off one of the best seasons of his career (1.28 ERA, 33 saves). He also presumably wants to win a championship.
Jose Leclerc was great for us last year and it's good to have him back, but he's no Hader. Few pitchers are, and adding him to the bullpen would make Texas even more formidable heading into 2024 and beyond.
