The Rangers have been mired in a brutal stretch lately as they've watched their lead over the AL West slip away, but they finally got some good news on Monday night.

Texas announced that top prospect Evan Carter will be promoted from Double-A Frisco to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, which also happens to be his 21st birthday.

That moves Carter one step closer to the majors, where he'll likely debut in 2024 if all goes according to plan.

The promotion is well-deserved for the team's No. 1 prospect, who also ranks No. 8 in the sport according to MLB Pipeline. In 97 games at Double-A this year, the 20-year-old outfielder slashed .284/.411/.451 with 12 homers, 62 RBIs and 22 steals, showcasing his outstanding power, speed and plate discipline.

Assuming he fares well in Triple-A, Carter should be up in the majors at some point next year. He'll likely be invited to Spring Training but will probably open the year in Triple-A for additional seasoning, which is common practice so teams can manipulate the service time of their top prospects.

A second-round draft pick in 2020, Carter is already remarkably polished for his age and projects to be a star in the majors for years to come. The Rangers will love it if he adds a bit more power to his game and cuts down on his strikeouts somewhat, but his offensive profile looks like that of a future All-Star.

Despite Texas' recent struggles, Rangers fans are surely glad the team didn't trade Carter at the deadline this year in a go-for-broke move. Assuming his minor league success translates to the majors, he's positioned to anchor the club's lineup for the foreseeable future and will try to help it win its first World Series in franchise history.

In the meantime, Rangers fans can only hope their team turns things around before it's too late.
