Thursday May Be Turning Point in Dan Quinn's Cowboys Future
Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has a crucial interview lined up on Jan. 25. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Quinn is scheduled to have a second interview with the Seahawks for their vacant head coaching position in Seattle, which would be the last step before a potential hiring, if all goes well.
Cowboy fans would love to have Quinn return to Dallas for the fourth straight season. He's helped transform this unit into one of the best defenses in the league. Since taking over in 2021, the Cowboys have snatched 93 total takeaways, leading the NFL in both 2021 and 2022.
This past season, Dallas was ranked fifth in total defense (299.7) and pass defense (187.4). Under Quinn's tenure, he's helped develop Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland into All-Pro talents.
Parsons became just the fifth player in NFL History to have 40 or more sacks in their first three seasons, notching 40.5. He joined Reggie White, Derrick Thomas, Dwight Freeney, and Aldon Smith.
This past season, Bland led the league in interceptions (9) and broke the NFL record for defensive touchdowns (5) in a year.
Quinn's presence is very prominent and he knows how to get the most out of his guys. The 53-year-old coach has a history in Seattle. He was their defensive coordinator from 2013-14, when they reached back-to-back Super Bowls.
The Seahawks had the No. 1 defense during the 2013 and 2014 campaigns, including a dominating performance in 2013. That defense led the NFL in points allowed (231), yards allowed (4,378), and takeaways (39), the first team to lead all three categories since the 1985 Chicago Bears.
Even though nothing is locked in, Quinn is one of the top candidates for the Seahawks' open position.
