Tyler Smith 'Truly Impressed' by Cowboys Draft Pick in Camp

The former first-round pick had nothing but good things to say about Tyler Guyton.

Training camp is underway for the Dallas Cowboys in Oxnard, California, as the team looks to have a good 2024 season after an average off-season. Dallas has been under the microscope for the last few months due to their lack of moves in free agency, contract negotiations, etc.

However, the Cowboys made some goodwill with the fanbase after having a solid performance in the 2024 NFL Draft where they addressed multiple positions of need. In the first round, Dallas moved back a few spots and took former Oklahoma Sooners offensive tackle Tyler Guyton, who was viewed as one of the better tackles in the class.

The Cowboys needed to go after the offensive line with their first pick, given that eight-time Pro Bowler Tyron Smith signed with the New York Jets in free agency.

Cowboys left guard Tyler Smith has been impressed with Guyton’s performance in camp, which is great news for fans and the organization.

“I’ve been truly impressed. It’s not very often that you find a human being who measures how he does, 6-7, 330, and has light feet and can just move and just bully dudes,” Smith said via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “When he really becomes confident and gets the playbook down and does all that stuff, the sky is truly is the limit for him and his development.”

The fact that Smith can already see greatness in Guyton is what you want to see and hear if you are Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. Once upon a time, Smith was a first-round pick back in 2022 and was thrown into the first immediately at left tackle.

The former first-round pick has held his own, improved his game on the line, and was named to the Pro Bowl last season. Dallas hopes Guyton can follow the same path as Smith to start his career because they would have solidified the left side of their offensive line for the foreseeable future.

However, we won’t truly know if Guyton is ready for the bright lights of the NFL until he plays in his first preseason game on Aug. 11 against the Los Angeles Rams. But so far, he’s holding his own against one of the better defenses in the league.
